In the early hours of Sunday, August 6, 2023, the life of 27-year-old Hakeem Dickson, a Black male from Hartford, Connecticut, was tragically cut short in a hail of gunfire. The incident unfolded around 3 a.m. on Sterling Street, a neighborhood just off Albany Avenue, where Dickson and another man, 23-year-old William Tisdol, were ambushed on a porch.
The city's ShotSpotter system alerted Hartford police to multiple gunshots in the area, leading them to the grim discovery.
Upon their arrival at 82 Sterling Street, officers found both Dickson and Tisdol suffering from numerous gunshot wounds. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was rushed to St. Francis Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he too succumbed to his injuries. The violence that claimed Dickson's life was not an isolated event that night; it was the second fatal shooting in Hartford within a mere 90 minutes.
