In the early hours of June 20, 2023, the life of Tevin Zackary Randy Jackson, a 21-year-old White / Caucasian male from Charleston, West Virginia, was tragically cut short. Inside an apartment located in the 1600 block of McClung Street, a casual gathering was taking place. Jackson and a group of others were spending time together, unwinding and playing video games in what seemed to be a normal, uneventful morning.
The atmosphere of camaraderie was shattered when a man identified as
George Yea, 29, of Trinity, North Carolina, suddenly pulled out a gun. According to investigators, Yea then announced to the room that he was going to shoot everyone present. The others in the apartment, however, reportedly perceived his alarming statement as a joke, not grasping the imminent danger they were in.
This moment of disbelief turned to horror when Yea allegedly fired the weapon. A single round was discharged, striking Tevin Jackson in the neck. The friendly get-together was instantly transformed into a scene of violence and loss, ending a young man's life.
Law enforcement was called to the scene at approximately 2:10 a.m. Responding quickly, Charleston police began a search for the suspect. In a testament to their swift action, George Yea was located and taken into custody in the East End of Charleston merely 20 minutes after the initial call. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. Yea was transported to the South Central Regional Jail, where he is being held without bail as the investigation continues and the case proceeds through the court system.
