In the early morning hours of Friday, March 18, 2022, a sense of unease led a man to a residence on McKee Avenue in Charleston, West Virginia. He was there to meet 38-year-old Patrick L. Jefferson, a Black / African American male, but his knocks went unanswered. Growing suspicious when he could hear Jefferson's phone ringing inside the home, he contacted the police to request a well-being check.
