On a tragic Sunday evening, April 9, 2023, the life of 18-year-old Faith M. Zulu, a Black/African American female from Davenport, Iowa, was cut short by an act of violence. The incident unfolded around 11:30 p.m. at the Jersey Meadow apartment complex on 53rd Street, where Faith was shot multiple times. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, she tragically succumbed to her injuries.
The Davenport Police Department swiftly launched an investigation into the shooting. They soon determined that the attack on Faith was not a random act of violence, suggesting she may have been targeted. Their investigation quickly led them to a suspect, another 18-year-old named Zion E. Harrison.
Within a day of the fatal shooting, Zion Harrison was taken into custody by law enforcement. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and going armed with intent in connection with Faith's death. It was also revealed that at the time of his arrest, Harrison had five outstanding warrants for other matters. The arrest brought a swift, though not comforting, development to a case that had suddenly and violently ended a young life.
In the wake of her untimely death, Faith M. Zulu was remembered by her loved ones. A funeral service was held to honor her memory, and she was laid to rest at Chippiannock Cemetery in Rock Island. She was survived by her father and siblings, having been preceded in death by her mother and an infant child. The legal proceedings against Zion Harrison for the alleged murder of Faith M. Zulu were initiated following his arrest.
