On June 22, 2013, the body of Amanda Abbott, a 25-year-old woman from Davenport, Iowa, was found after 1 a.m. in a chair inside a duplex on West First Street. She had been fatally shot.

The investigation led police to 22-year-old A.J. Coats, who was identified as a suspect in the case. Coats was found at a trailer park in Milan, Illinois, later that morning.
