On February 3, 2023, a drive-by shooting occurred near 1st Avenue and Thomas Road in midtown Phoenix, resulting in the death of 15-year-old Isaac Perez Grado and the injury of a child. The incident happened around 4:40 p.m. when a vehicle occupied by multiple people was driving through a parking lot and another vehicle drove past, opening fire on them. Perez Grado, who was inside the targeted vehicle, was struck by gunfire and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
