In the summer of 2021, a young man's life was cut short in midtown Tucson, Arizona. Eighteen-year-old Felix Alexandrew Pichardo was inside an apartment in the 4100 block of East 29th Street on the afternoon of July 7th when a dispute escalated to violence. Witnesses later told police that a fight had broken out between Pichardo and other individuals he knew, culminating in a fatal shooting. First responders arrived at the scene just after 12:30 p.m. to find Pichardo with gunshot wounds.
He was quickly transported to Banner University Medical Center, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Tucson Police Department's SWAT team was deployed to a nearby apartment in search of a suspect, but the unit was empty. The investigation continued, and through witness interviews and the analysis of forensic evidence, authorities identified a 15-year-old, Terrayne Newsome, as the primary suspect in Pichardo's death. An arrest warrant for first-degree murder was issued for Newsome the day after the shooting.
The search for the suspect concluded on July 9th, when police located Newsome at a residence in the 700 block of West Lightstar Circle. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Pima County Jail on the charge of first-degree murder, bringing a swift, though somber, development to the case of the teenager whose life was violently ended.
