On the afternoon of January 26, 2024, in Tucson, Arizona, 23-year-old Devon Sullivan Thompson was driving his black Dodge Challenger when he was tragically killed. At approximately 2:00 p.m., in the 8100 block of E. Poinciana Dr. on the city's East side, Mr. Thompson was approached by a group of individuals. During this encounter, gunshots were fired, and he sustained life-threatening injuries.
Following the shooting, the group fled the area, and Mr.
Thompson drove his vehicle into a large parking lot, where it struck a building. Emergency services were dispatched, and upon arrival, police officers found him with gunshot trauma and immediately began rendering aid. He was then transported to St. Joseph's Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Devon Sullivan Thompson succumbed to his injuries later that evening, just after 9:30 p.m.
The Tucson Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately began an investigation into the fatal shooting. Through their inquiries, which included reviewing witness statements and forensic evidence, detectives were able to identify suspects. The investigation led to a series of arrests in the weeks that followed. On February 21, 2024, 17-year-old David Domnik Madril was taken into custody and subsequently charged with Felony Murder.
Further investigation and the execution of additional search warrants led to the identification of two more suspects. On March 20, 2024, 17-year-old Dominic Nathaniel Carrasco was arrested. The following night, 18-year-old Jacob James Bell surrendered to the police and was also taken into custody. Both Carrasco and Bell are facing charges of 1st Degree Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, and Aggravated Robbery. All three suspects were booked into the Pima County Jail.
