In the spring of 2024, a journey on a Tucson road tragically ended the life of Dr. Jeffrey Honer, a 47-year-old White/Caucasian male. On the afternoon of March 15th, Honer was traveling with a group of nurses to a patient's home when an aggressive driving incident escalated into a fatal confrontation. The altercation occurred near the intersection of Houghton and Snyder roads with another driver, Jason Scott Jameson.
Following the heated exchange on the road, Honer reportedly approached
Jameson's truck. According to Jameson's account to law enforcement, Honer punched him, and as Honer was turning away, Jameson shot him. Bystanders and Jameson himself attempted to render aid, and Jameson called 911, remaining at the scene and cooperating with the Pima County Sheriff's Department deputies who responded. Despite these efforts, Jeffrey Honer was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a married father of three who was remembered by loved ones as a caring and generous man, dedicated to his family and his faith.
Jason Jameson, a 41-year-old naval veteran and electrical engineer, was arrested in connection with the shooting. He was initially charged with second-degree murder, but this was later reduced to manslaughter. Ultimately, Jameson pleaded guilty to a further reduced charge of negligent homicide. In October 2025, a judge sentenced him to four years of probation and 200 hours of community service. Jameson, who claimed he acted out of fear and in self-defense, avoided prison time for the shooting death of Dr. Honer, a resolution that brought profound disappointment and shock to Honer's grieving family. In response to the tragic loss, Honer's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
