In the winter of 2022, the life of 59-year-old Darryl Hughes was abruptly ended in Tucson, Arizona. On the evening of February 5th, police were called to a parking lot in midtown following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Darryl Hughes with gunshot trauma. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival.
His death was investigated as a homicide.
Darryl, a man who had found his passion for HVAC repair, was a well-regarded employee at Advantage Air Mechanical and had previously worked for Breeze Heating and Cooling for many years. Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he served in the Navy before eventually settling in Arizona. He was a husband, a father to one son, a grandfather to three, and a cherished brother to seven siblings. Those who knew him remembered him as a great coworker and a dear friend, and his loss was deeply felt by his family and community.
The investigation into the shooting led Tucson police to identify a suspect in the case. More than a month after the incident, on March 17, 2022, authorities arrested 38-year-old Reginald Buckhanon. He was subsequently booked into the Pima County Jail and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Darryl Hughes. Buckhanon was held on a $1 million bond.
