In the late afternoon of September 18, 2023, the quiet streets of a Tucson, Arizona neighborhood were disturbed by a grim discovery. Eighteen-year-old Bryan Antonio Torres, a White / Caucasian male, was found unresponsive in the roadway on South Fremont Avenue near East Calle Nevada. Initially thought to be the victim of a car accident, the responding Tucson Fire Department personnel soon realized the tragic truth as they uncovered gunshot trauma on his body.
Despite their life-saving efforts, Bryan was pronounced deceased at the scene.
As officers canvassed the area near South Park Avenue and East Irvington Road, the tragedy deepened with the discovery of a second victim. Down the street, seated in a passenger vehicle, was 18-year-old Emir Arreola-Morales, who had also succumbed to fatal gunshot wounds. The investigation into what was now a double homicide began to unfold as detectives processed the scene for evidence. Bryan was remembered by his family as a sweet and charming young man with a bright smile, who was a talented soccer player.
The Tucson Police Department's homicide investigation swiftly identified two teenage suspects. On September 22, 2023, with the assistance of the SWAT and K-9 units, 16-year-old Jacob Sosa was taken into custody near South Mission Road and West Irvington Road. He was subsequently booked into the Pima County Jail on two counts of first-degree murder and armed robbery, with his bond set at $1,000,000.
The second suspect, 17-year-old Trystn Montoya, was located and apprehended in Clovis, New Mexico. The Clovis Police Department contacted Tucson authorities after Montoya became a suspect in a separate homicide within their jurisdiction. An arrest warrant for two counts of first-degree murder and armed robbery had already been issued for Montoya in connection with the deaths of Torres and Arreola-Morales. He is being held in the Lea County Detention Facility awaiting extradition.
