In the early morning hours of December 17, 2017, the life of Tereso Hernandez-Reyes, an adult male, was cut tragically short in a violent encounter on Tucson's South Side. The events of that fateful Sunday began to unfold after Hernandez-Reyes and some acquaintances left a popular nightclub in downtown Tucson. Their vehicle had just pulled into a mobile home park in the 5300 block of South Park Avenue at approximately 2:47 a.m.
when they were followed by at least two other vehicles.
The situation escalated rapidly as a suspect emerged and opened fire on the vehicle where Hernandez-Reyes was seated. In a desperate attempt to escape the sudden onslaught of violence, he fled from the car. However, he was pursued by his assailant and shot multiple times. The occupants of the other vehicles quickly fled the scene, leaving chaos and tragedy in their wake. Fortunately, the other individuals in the vehicle with Hernandez-Reyes were not injured during the attack.
Tucson Police officers were the first to arrive at the scene, where they discovered Hernandez-Reyes with obvious signs of gunshot trauma. They immediately administered first aid until medical personnel from the Tucson Fire Department arrived. He was then transported to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Tereso Hernandez-Reyes succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Detectives with the Tucson Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Their initial findings indicated that the shooting was not believed to be gang-related. In the immediate aftermath of the incident, law enforcement had not identified any suspects, and no arrests had been made. The investigation into the death of Tereso Hernandez-Reyes remains open, and authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
