On the evening of April 3, 2024, an arranged meeting near Jacob's Park in Tucson, Arizona, turned fatal for 18-year-old Alex Junior Medina. Medina had planned to meet with someone, and while sitting in his vehicle, he was shot. At the time of the incident, a teenage female was also in the vehicle with him but was unharmed.
Following the shooting, law enforcement and emergency services were dispatched to the front of a business in the 1200 block of W.
Miracle Mile after receiving a report of a shooting victim. Upon arrival, they found Medina inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds. He was transported to Banner University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Tucson Police Department homicide detectives took over the investigation and determined that the actual shooting occurred in the 1000 block of W. Lind Street, near Jacobs Park. Through the examination of forensic evidence, investigators were able to obtain search warrants for two residences on Tucson's West Side.
On April 9, 2024, these warrants were executed with the assistance of Community Response Teams. During the search, investigators identified 16-year-old Fabian Nelson Boteo as the suspect. Following interviews and the processing of additional evidence, Boteo was charged with first-degree murder. He was subsequently booked into the Pima County Jail and is being held on a $1,000,000 bond. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have encouraged anyone with further information to come forward.
