Jesus De Jesus Gonzalez, a 19-year-old Hispanic / Latino male, was shot and killed in the early morning hours of June 25, 2023, at an apartment complex in the 100 block of West Valencia Road on Tucson’s south/southwest side. Police were called around 12:30 a.m. for reports of a shooting, and arriving officers found Gonzalez suffering from gunshot wounds; despite officers and medical personnel providing aid at the scene, he was pronounced dead there.
Investigators learned that Gonzalez and another man had become involved in an altercation with several suspects at the complex. During this confrontation, shots were fired, striking both Gonzalez and the second man. The second victim was rushed to Banner University Medical Center with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening, while additional witnesses and victims at the apartment complex were treated on scene for minor injuries.
Tucson police quickly identified one of the people involved as 19-year-old Augustine Alvarez. He was located at a business in the 100 block of South Houghton Road, detained, and then arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, armed robbery, aggravated robbery and kidnapping. Authorities stated that he was booked into the Pima County Jail, where he was held on a $1,000,000 bond as the investigation continued.
As detectives pursued the case, they later arrested two additional suspects, identified as David Andrew Gorosave and Robert Phillip Coronado. Both were taken into custody on Tucson’s south side on July 6 and, like Alvarez, were arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, armed robbery, aggravated robbery, kidnapping and two counts of aggravated assault. Court records and case summaries indicate that the case is considered solved, with the three suspects held on high bonds in connection with Gonzalez’s killing and the associated assault on the surviving victim.
