In the summer of 2021, a burst of violent gunfire shattered the peace of a Tulsa, Oklahoma neighborhood, leaving a young man fatally wounded in the street. Daquan Ratliff, a 27-year-old Black male, was discovered by responding officers near East 27th and North Boston Place on the night of July 24th. He was swiftly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The scene of the shooting painted a grim and chaotic picture for investigators.
An overwhelming amount of evidence, including more than 80 shell casings, was recovered from the area. This suggested a massive exchange of gunfire, though it remained unclear if Ratliff was the intended target of a deliberate attack or an unfortunate victim caught in a violent crossfire. The sheer volume of ammunition expended spoke to the brutal nature of the encounter that claimed his life.
