On the evening of September 25, 2024, deputies from the Pitt County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting on South Pineview Lane in Farmville, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 30-year-old Marston resident, Lakota Shan Locklear, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
Present at the scene was 26-year-old Red Springs resident, Timothy Chavis, who was identified as the shooter.
Chavis had outstanding warrants from Robeson County for assault on a female and communicating threats, charges unrelated to the Farmville incident. He was arrested on these existing warrants and taken to the Pitt County Detention Center, where he was held under a $5,000 secured bond.
The investigation into Locklear's death is ongoing. Once concluded, detectives plan to present their findings to the Pitt County District Attorney's Office to determine potential prosecution. Authorities have identified all known witnesses and have stated that this was an isolated incident, posing no continuing threat to the general public.
In the wake of this tragedy, Locklear's family and friends are mourning his loss. Born on June 10, 1994, in Scotland County, North Carolina, to the late Kenneth Locklear and Sandra Locklear, Lakota "Heck" Shan Locklear is survived by his mother, four sons—Jeremiah, Malachi, Kylan, and Lakota Jr.—a daughter, Nazayla, two brothers, two sisters, his companion, Miranda Chavis, and his grandmother, Rosie Mae Locklear.
Funeral services were held on October 5, 2024, at Heritage Funeral Home in Red Springs, North Carolina, where family and friends gathered to honor his memory and say their final goodbyes.
