On the warm evening of July 23, 2021, a visit to friends on Tucson's south side turned fatal for 43-year-old Ruben Chavarria Valenzuela. The Hispanic man was standing outside a residence in the 4400 block of South Seventh Avenue when the sound of gunfire shattered the night around 10 p.m. Tucson police officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of a shooting and discovered Valenzuela with life-threatening gunshot wounds.
