In the early morning hours of February 8, 2024, the life of 39-year-old Mario Peter Vega, a Hispanic male, was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting on Tucson's west side. The incident unfolded shortly before 1:40 a.m., when officers in the area reported hearing the sound of gunshots.
Following the shooting, a vehicle arrived at St. Mary's Hospital carrying Vega, who was suffering from gunshot wounds.
The individual who drove him to the hospital was met by Tucson Police Department officers. Despite the immediate medical attention and life-saving efforts he received at the hospital, Vega succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene to begin their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
