In the pre-dawn hours of October 26, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet at the Enchanted Hills Trailhead on the west side of Tucson, Arizona. When Tucson Police Department officers responded to reports of the shooting shortly before 2:30 a.m., they discovered a tragic scene in the 3200 block of W. 36th Street. Two young men had been shot.
One of them, 20-year-old Jesus Fierro, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other victim, a 20-year-old male named Freddie Hudson, was found with a critical gunshot wound. He was rushed to Banner University Medical Center for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Hudson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Investigators learned that multiple people were present at the trailhead when the shots were fired.
The double homicide rocked the local community, especially as it was the second deadly shooting at the same trailhead in just two weeks. On October 12, a 17-year-old had also been killed in the early morning hours. While the Tucson Police Department investigated both incidents, they stated that there was no immediate evidence to suggest the two fatal shootings were connected.
In the days following the deaths of Freddie Hudson and Jesus Fierro, the investigation into the shooting continued. However, no suspects were immediately identified or taken into custody. The Tucson Police Department urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they worked to piece together the events that led to the deaths of the two young men. As of late October 2024, no arrests had been announced in connection with the case.
