In the late afternoon of September 18, 2023, a grim discovery was made in Tucson, Arizona, that would soon unfold into a double homicide investigation. The life of 18-year-old Emir Arreola-Morales, a Caucasian male, was cut tragically short on this day. The events began to come to light when a 9-1-1 call reported an unresponsive male in the roadway near South Park Avenue and East Irvington Road.
Initially thought to be a victim of a vehicle collision, first responders soon realized the situation was far more sinister when they discovered gunshot trauma on the male, identified as 18-year-old Bryan Antonio Torres. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
As law enforcement canvassed the area, the scope of the tragedy widened. Down the street from where Torres was found, officers located a second victim inside a passenger vehicle. This was Emir Arreola-Morales, who had also sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. It became clear to the Tucson Police Department's Homicide Detectives that this was not an accident, but a deliberate act of violence. The focus of their investigation shifted to identifying those responsible for the deaths of the two teenagers.
The investigation led detectives to two teenage suspects. On September 22, 2023, 16-year-old Jacob Sosa was taken into custody in the area of South Mission Road and West Irvington Road. He was subsequently booked into the Pima County Jail on two counts of first-degree murder and armed robbery, with his bond set at one million dollars. The second suspect, 17-year-old Trystn Montoya, was located and apprehended in Clovis, New Mexico, on September 25, 2023. His arrest came after the Clovis Police Department identified him as a suspect in a separate homicide within their jurisdiction. Montoya is being held in the Lea County Detention Facility, awaiting extradition to face charges for two counts of first-degree murder and armed robbery in connection with the deaths of Arreola-Morales and Torres.
