In the summer of 2026, a deadly encounter in Tucson, Arizona, claimed the life of 33-year-old Eddie Lopez Jr. On the night of Monday, August 17th, police were called to a residence near Sahuara Avenue and East 29th Street following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Lopez suffering from a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both Angel Valenzuela and Derek Walker Poff were charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. Poff faced an additional charge of discharging a firearm within city limits. He was being held in the Pima County Jail on a $1 million bond.
