On a tragic day in August 2021, 30-year-old Matthew Lujan was shot and killed in his Phoenix, Arizona, home. The devastating event, which also claimed the lives of his parents, Lewis and Irene Lujan, unfolded following a domestic dispute. Matthew, who worked as an Assistant Manager at Fry's Food and Drug, was known for his loving and caring nature.
The initial confrontation began as an argument between Matthew's older brother, Brandon Michael Lujan, and their parents.
The dispute escalated when Matthew intervened, leading to a physical fight with Brandon. During the altercation, Brandon, then 34, pulled out a handgun and shot his younger brother multiple times.
After shooting Matthew, Brandon turned the gun on his parents as they came out of a bedroom. He fired so many rounds that he had to reload his weapon. The day after the killings, Brandon Lujan went to a hospital for an ankle injury he sustained during the fight and confessed to the murders to hospital staff, who then contacted the police. Officers discovered the bodies of Matthew, Lewis, and Irene at their home, all having suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Brandon Lujan was arrested and subsequently found guilty of three counts of first-degree murder. He was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole. His wife, Raylien Loest, who acted as the getaway driver, was sentenced to three years in prison for her role in hindering the prosecution. The motive for the tragic killings was reportedly an argument over Brandon and his wife being kicked out of his parents' home.
