In the early evening of December 27, 2024, a burst of violence shattered the quiet near 8th Street and Montecito Avenue in Phoenix, Arizona. Responding to calls of a shooting around 7:20 p.m., police officers arrived to find a man gravely wounded. The victim, later identified as 33-year-old Rayeon McKinnon, had sustained at least one gunshot wound. Paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced deceased.
The incident, which unfolded near the Los Jardines Apartments and a block east of Steele Indian School Park, prompted homicide detectives to launch a full-scale investigation.
The day after the fatal shooting, with the assistance of the Arizona Department of Public Safety, authorities located and apprehended a suspect in connection with McKinnon's death. The man taken into custody was identified as 55-year-old Henry Turner. Following an interview with investigators, Turner was booked into jail on multiple felony charges, including murder and being a prohibited possessor in possession of a firearm.
