On a cold Saturday afternoon in Wilmington, Delaware, the life of Charles Mays, a 66-year-old Black male, came to a tragic and violent end. On January 14, 2017, police were called to the scene of what initially appeared to be a traffic accident. A truck, driven by Mays, had collided with several parked cars. However, upon their arrival, officers made a grim discovery that shifted the investigation from a mere vehicle mishap to a homicide.
