Lamare Kiser, a 44-year-old Black man, was killed during the early morning hours of May 3, 2017, inside his home at the Alder Park Apartments in Dover, Delaware. At approximately 2:35 a.m., numerous callers contacted 911 to report that someone had been shot inside Building B of the apartment complex at 51 Webbs Lane. Delaware State Police troopers, Dover police officers and emergency medical personnel rushed to the property, where they found Kiser unresponsive in his apartment with multiple
gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit took charge of the investigation. An autopsy performed by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science determined that Kiser had been shot in the upper torso and officially classified his death as a homicide. The shooting had occurred inside the place where he lived, turning his apartment into both the scene of his death and the central focus of the investigation.
Kiser, who was also known to relatives and friends as “Reds,” had been born in Dover and educated in the Caesar Rodney School District before earning his GED. He worked as a truck driver and was remembered as someone who loved his family and sports and took particular pride in his children. His death was followed by a celebration-of-life service at First Pilgrim Baptist Church in Camden, Delaware, as those close to him gathered to mourn a life ended by violence inside his own residence.
Investigators did not publicly identify a suspect in the immediate aftermath of the killing. Police announced that no arrests had been made and appealed to anyone with knowledge of the shooting to contact the detective assigned to the case or provide information anonymously. No publicly available law-enforcement announcement located during the research names a person of interest, accused shooter or accomplice connected to Kiser’s death.
The case remains listed by the Delaware State Police as an unsolved homicide under case number 03-17-23751. The agency’s case summary states that Kiser was shot in his residence by an unknown suspect or unknown suspects and died at that location. Because no one has been publicly arrested or charged, there have been no reported court proceedings, trials, guilty pleas or convictions arising from the murder. The identity of the person or people responsible remains unknown, leaving the investigation dependent on evidence already gathered and information that witnesses or others may still provide.
