On the afternoon after Christmas in 2020, Ryjee Pinkney, a 22-year-old Black / African American male, was shot in Wilmington, Delaware. Police said the shooting happened at about 2:38 p.m. on Saturday, December 26, in the area of 35th and Locust Streets, in the city’s Eastlawn section. Officers found Pinkney suffering from gunshot wounds, and the scene quickly became another place in Wilmington marked by sudden violence during a year already strained by shootings.
