Kwa'jree Turner, a 22-year-old Black male from New Castle, Delaware, was killed on the night of February 10, 2022, after leaving LA Fitness at 900 Eden Circle in Bear. Delaware State Police said the call came in at about 9:41 p.m. for a shooting in the gym's parking lot. Turner had walked out of the fitness center and was approaching his vehicle when an unknown person came up and opened fire. Multiple shell casings were recovered from the lot, showing the attack unfolded quickly in a public place just after a training session.
Emergency responders rushed Turner from the parking lot to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead after being shot multiple times. Early reports described the victim only as a young man from New Castle, and Delaware State Police later released his name as Kwa'jree Turner. The shooting was treated as a homicide, and the scene outside the Bear-area gym became the center of an investigation as detectives searched for witnesses, evidence, and anything that could identify the person who approached him.
Online source reports did not identify a named suspect, and available public updates did not report an arrest, charges, trial, or conviction in Turner's killing. FOX 29 reported after the identification that no suspect had been identified and investigators had not released information about a possible suspect. Delaware State Police described the shooter only as an unknown suspect and continued to ask for information from the public.
The case remained centered on the same final moments: Turner leaving the gym, walking toward his vehicle, and being ambushed in the parking lot. The official Delaware State Police case bulletin later summarized that he was shot in the LA Fitness parking lot after a training session and transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
