On June 30, 2014, at approximately 10:09 p.m., New Castle County Police responded to reports of gunfire in the unit block of Heron Court within the Sparrow Run Townhouses development in Bear, Delaware. Upon arrival, officers discovered 18-year-old Dewayne Barfield suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso. He was promptly transported to Christiana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
