Randy Derrick Bolden, a 54-year-old African American male from Seaford, Delaware, died after a shooting inside a home in Dover on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Dover police said the incident unfolded in the 400 block of River Road in the Capital Green area, where officers were called at about 10:26 a.m. for a report of shots fired from inside a residence.
When officers arrived, they found Bolden inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body.
Emergency responders rendered aid at the scene before Bolden was transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital from his injuries. Police initially withheld his name while family notifications were pending, then publicly identified him on May 14, 2024.
Investigators said Bolden and the suspect, a 17-year-old male from Dover, had been involved in a verbal and physical altercation inside the residence before the shooting. During that confrontation, police said the teen obtained a firearm and shot Bolden. The suspect left the home before officers arrived, leaving police to piece together what had happened after finding Bolden wounded inside.
Later that same day, at about 1:30 p.m., the 17-year-old went to the Dover Police Department and turned himself in. Police said he was taken into custody without incident. Because the suspect was a juvenile, his name was not publicly released in the reports reviewed.
The teen was charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. He was committed to the Stevenson House Detention Center on $535,000 cash bail. Publicly available reports reviewed did not identify any additional suspects, and no later online update was found confirming a trial outcome, conviction, plea, or sentencing.
