On October 25, 2023, 35-year-old Maxx Allen Hathaway was among the victims of a mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine. The tragedy unfolded at two locations: Just-In-Time Recreation, a bowling alley, and Schemengees Bar & Grille. Hathaway was at Schemengees that evening to play pool. His wife, Brenda, who was eight months pregnant at the time, had left earlier with their toddler due to the child's restlessness.
