A beloved figure in the community, he was dedicating his time, as he often did, to coaching a youth bowling league when the attack occurred.
Bob, a retired Sears mechanic and U.S.
Navy veteran, was known for his kind and patient demeanor. He had a passion for sharing his wisdom and life lessons, which made him a well-respected and cherished coach for many years. His dedication extended beyond regular league days, as he volunteered extra time to provide additional guidance to the young bowlers he mentored. Those who knew him recall a man of integrity and love, someone who could always bring a smile to your face and who was considered a rock for his family.
On that tragic evening, Bob was at Sparetime Recreation, doing what he loved alongside his wife, Lucy, who was also killed in the attack. Witnesses and friends believe that his first instinct in the midst of the chaos would have been to protect the children he was coaching. His life was taken just days before he would have celebrated his 77th birthday.
The man responsible for this senseless act of violence was identified as Robert Card. Following the shootings, a massive manhunt was launched to locate him. Card was later found deceased, having taken his own life.
