On October 28, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Portland police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Portland and Alder Streets. Upon arrival, officers discovered 31-year-old Edgar Ismael Cando suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was promptly transported to Maine Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
