On a summer evening in Portland, Maine, on June 24, 1997, a confrontation that began in a bar tragically escalated, ending the life of 24-year-old Dana G. Matthews, a White / Caucasian male, and two other men. The dispute involved Matthews, Nicholas Patenaude, and Kevin Pinette, who had engaged in a heated argument with local bar owner Sabato Raia earlier in the evening.
