On a summer evening in Portland, Maine, on June 24, 1997, a dispute that began earlier in the day escalated into a fatal encounter that left three young men dead. Nicholas Patenaude, a 22-year-old male, along with his acquaintances Dana Matthews and Kevin Pinette, was shot and killed outside the apartment of a local bar owner, Sabato Raia. The confrontation occurred hours after an initial argument had taken place between Raia and the three men.
