On the evening of September 7, 2022, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Portland police responded to reports of a shooting at Deering Oaks Park. Upon arrival, officers discovered 31-year-old Walter Omal of Portland suffering from a gunshot wound. He was promptly transported to Maine Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries early the following morning.
