On July 25, 2010, 22-year-old Taquan Samuels was shot and killed while leaving a party at an apartment complex on Allen Avenue in Portland, Maine. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Samuels had recently moved to Portland. A 911 call reporting the shooting was received at around 3:40 a.m., and emergency responders pronounced Samuels dead at the scene. The state medical examiner ruled the death a homicide, with the cause of death being a gunshot wound to the chest.
