Any updates on this case? Let us know!
Jeffrey Ray Parrish was 50 years old when he died on Thursday, April 29, 2010, in West Carson. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner, he died after sustaining blunt force trauma near the rear of 800 W. Carson Street. His death was ruled a homicide, and it is listed as a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department case, handled out of the department's Carson Station.

The Los Angeles Times Homicide Report recorded only the basic facts: Jeffrey Ray Parrish, a 50-year-old white man, died that Thursday "after sustaining blunt force trauma near the Rear of 800 W. Carson St. in West Carson." The words "rear of" suggest he was found or injured behind a building, perhaps in an alley, a lot or a back area, rather than on the street itself, but the record does not say.

Beyond his name, his age and the place where he died, almost nothing about Jeffrey Ray Parrish has been made public. No obituary, memorial page or family fundraiser could be found for this story, and no news outlet appears to have reported on the death. He surely had family, friends or neighbors who remember who he was, but none of that has entered the public record.

Because so little has been released, even the basic circumstances remain unknown to the public. The record does not say whether he was beaten in a fight, attacked by a stranger, assaulted indoors or on the street, or struck by a vehicle, all of which can lead to a finding of blunt force trauma. It does not say what time of day he was hurt, whether he died at the scene or later at a hospital, whether anyone saw what happened, or whether investigators ever identified a suspect.

Jeffrey Parrish is a fairly common name, and searches turn up many men who share it, from business owners and conservationists to people listed in obituaries in other states. None of those records is connected to the man who died in West Carson.

West Carson is an unincorporated community in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County, lying between the city of Carson, Torrance and the Harbor Gateway area of Los Angeles. Because it is not part of any city, it is policed by the Sheriff's Department. The community is best known as the home of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, one of the county's major public hospitals and trauma centers. Carson Street is one of the main east-west roads through the area.

Hundreds of people are killed in Los Angeles County every year, and a large share of those killings end without an arrest.

No arrest, criminal charge or court case connected to the death of Jeffrey Ray Parrish could be found in news archives or public records. More than 15 years later, there is no public sign that anyone has been held responsible. Someone who lived or worked near the 800 block of West Carson Street in late April 2010 may remember a man who was hurt there, may have seen a fight or heard a disturbance behind a building, or may simply have known Jeffrey Parrish by sight. Relatives who lost touch with him may also hold details about his life and the people around him. Even a small detail, such as a name overheard, a vehicle seen nearby or a conversation remembered, can help detectives move a case forward. Anyone with information can contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
