William Alberto Wilkins, a 29-year-old detective with the Oakland Police Department, tragically lost his life on January 12, 2001, in a case of mistaken identity during an undercover narcotics operation. Detective Wilkins, who had served with the department for seven years, was involved in a stakeout when he noticed a stolen car speeding by.
