On May 24, 2021, the community of Bay City, Michigan, was shaken by the violent death of 25-year-old Taylor James Lall. Born on January 3, 1996, in Las Vegas, Nevada, to parents Michael Fischer and Rena Davenport, Lall had spent the majority of his life residing in Bay City. He was known to his friends and family by the nickname "5 Top" and was the father of two children, Mia Rena Davenport and Akilles James Davenport.
The fatal incident occurred late in the evening on that Monday.
At approximately 9:50 p.m., officers from the Bay City Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the east side of the city following reports of a shooting. The response was centered around the alleyway located behind Jan’s Party Store at 603 Garfield Avenue. Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement officials discovered Lall, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene, marking the city's investigation into the homicide.
The initial police response involved a coordinated effort between the Bay City Department of Public Safety, the Bay County Sheriff’s Department, and the Michigan State Police. As detectives processed the scene in the alley behind the party store, they began working to identify those responsible. In the wake of the shooting, investigators identified and arrested two persons of interest in connection with the homicide, though specific details regarding formal charges or the identities of these suspects were not immediately released in the initial public reports.
Taylor Lall was remembered by his surviving family, including his father, his sister Tiffany Weigandt, and his extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rena Davenport Lall. A memorial service was held for him on June 7, 2021, at the Hyatt-Ewald Funeral Home in Bay City, where family and friends gathered to pay their respects to the young father whose life was cut short by violence.
