On November 13, 1990, Scott Sampson, a 26-year-old father of two, was found dead on the sidewalk outside the Pine Street Variety store in Portland, Maine. Police were called around 1:53 a.m. after bystanders noticed an unconscious man lying on the ground. Initially, it was thought that Sampson was intoxicated, but first responders quickly determined he was dead. Investigators later confirmed that Sampson's death was a homicide, although they have not publicly disclosed the cause of death.
