On a summer evening in East Glacier Park, Montana, the lives of the Siau family were irrevocably shattered. David Siau, a 39-year-old Caucasian male, was on vacation with his family, enjoying a trip out west that had begun on July 9, 2022. They had been camping near Glacier National Park and were walking beside a roadway on the evening of July 17th. The family was visiting from their home in Syracuse, New York, and had planned to visit Mount Rushmore before returning.
The tranquility of their vacation was destroyed when a 37-year-old man named Derick Amos Madden intentionally drove his vehicle into the family. After crashing his car into a tree, Madden emerged with a shotgun and opened fire. David Siau was fatally shot in the violent and unprovoked attack. His 18-month-old daughter, McKenzie, was also tragically killed.
David's wife, Christy, was shot and sustained serious injuries.
After running out of ammunition, Madden then turned his attack to David's sister, 30-year-old Christina Siau, using a knife. In a desperate struggle, Christina managed to fight back and fatally wounded her attacker. It was later revealed that Madden, originally from Oklahoma, had been in a previous relationship with Christina and had been experiencing mental health issues. As the sole perpetrator, Derick Amos Madden, died at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with this devastating incident. The investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Glacier County Sheriff's Office and the FBI.
