Shawn Paul Allread, a 42-year-old Caucasian male, tragically lost his life on October 29, 2015, in Billings, Montana, following a violent altercation at a residence on North 24th Street. The events of that night stemmed from a dispute that had escalated over text messages, culminating in a fatal shooting.
The investigation into Allread's death revealed a complex situation that led prosecutors to decline filing murder charges against the shooter, Nicholas Frandsen.
According to a memo from the Yellowstone County prosecutor's office, it was determined that Allread was the aggressor in the incident. The conflict reportedly began over a drug transaction, with Allread threatening to go to Frandsen's home to settle the matter.
In the early morning hours, Allread entered Frandsen's home without permission. Frandsen stated that Allread cornered him and pulled out a gun, prompting Frandsen to shoot him approximately 20 times. Prosecutors believed that since Allread had gone to the residence uninvited with the intent of committing a violent act, a jury would likely conclude that Frandsen had acted in self-defense. As a result, no arrests were made, and no charges were filed in connection with Shawn Paul Allread's death.
