On October 19, 2021, 32-year-old Jon Ryan Kesterson of Idaho Falls, Idaho, was fatally shot during an altercation in the remote Panther Creek Road area of Lemhi County. The incident involved Kesterson, 26-year-old Tel William Pethtel of Burley, and an unnamed woman. During the confrontation, multiple firearms were discharged, resulting in Kesterson being struck and succumbing to his injuries at the scene.
