On June 18, 2023, in Kellogg, Idaho, 18-year-old Devin Smith was fatally shot along with his family members: his mother, Kenna Guardipee, 41; his younger brother, Aiken Smith, 16; and his grandfather, Kenneth Guardipee, 65. The family resided in the lower unit of a duplex, with Majorjon Kaylor, 31, and his family occupying the upper unit.
