In the small mountain town of Kellogg, Idaho, a dispute between neighbors on Father's Day, June 18, 2023, escalated into a tragic quadruple homicide. Among the victims was Kenneth Guardipee, a 65-year-old White/Caucasian male who had recently retired and was enjoying spending time with his family. The quiet evening was shattered when law enforcement responded to a 911 call and discovered four people deceased from gunshot wounds at a residence on West Brown Avenue.
The investigation
quickly identified the victims as Kenneth, his 41-year-old daughter Kenna Guardipee, and her two sons, 18-year-old Devin Smith and 16-year-old Aiken Smith. They lived in a duplex and their upstairs neighbor, 31-year-old Majorjon Kaylor, was detained at the scene. Detectives from the Idaho State Police, assisting the Kellogg Police Department and the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office, determined that the shooting followed a conflict between the neighbors. Kaylor's wife had previously accused Devin Smith of indecently exposing himself to her and her children. Police had investigated the claim and recommended a misdemeanor charge against Smith, but the case had not yet been filed by prosecutors.
Majorjon Kaylor confessed to the killings, telling authorities that he "snapped" and "lost it." He was arrested and initially charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary. In the ensuing legal process, the Shoshone County Prosecuting Attorney's Office announced they would not seek the death penalty. Following a plea agreement, Kaylor pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree murder, and the burglary charge was dismissed.

During the sentencing hearing, family members gave emotional impact statements, remembering Kenneth as a man enjoying his retirement and Kenna as a hardworking single mother. Her younger son, Aiken, was active in junior ROTC with dreams of joining the military, while her older son, Devin, was navigating some mental health challenges with his family's support. In March 2024, a judge sentenced Majorjon Kaylor to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murders.
