On October 1, 2022, Sara Mehen, 45, and her husband Rory were tragically killed in their hotel, the Hartland Inn, in New Meadows, Idaho. The suspect, John Cody Hart, entered the hotel office and shot both victims.

Hart, a resident of Washington state, was apprehended shortly after the incident. He was arrested north of Cambridge along Highway 95 and taken to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
