On August 21, 2015, 81-year-old Barbara Sue Chitwood was found dead in the Twin Falls, Idaho, home she shared with 86-year-old Paul Robert Welch. Initially, Welch claimed that intruders had entered their residence, seeking to harm Chitwood and demanding money. However, he later confessed to shooting Chitwood twice in the head with a .22 caliber pistol located in their master bedroom. Following the shooting, Welch attempted suicide by shooting himself in the face but survived.
