LeAnn Schuldies, a 38-year-old Caucasian female, found her life tragically cut short on November 15, 2014, in Twin Falls, Idaho. Her death, along with that of her 17-year-old daughter Brianna Cox, was the result of a double homicide-suicide perpetrated by her ex-boyfriend, 36-year-old George Salinas. The violent end to their lives took place at the family's home, leaving a community in mourning and a family shattered.
In the weeks leading up to the fatal incident, LeAnn had taken steps
to distance herself and her five children from a volatile and increasingly dangerous relationship with Salinas. She had recently moved out of the home they shared and had sought legal protection, obtaining a protection order against him just a week before the tragedy. Friends and co-workers at Elevation 486, where she was a beloved bartender, were aware of her struggle and her fear. The situation had been escalating, with Salinas sending numerous threatening text messages to LeAnn, pleading for her to return while also making threats against her and himself.
Concerned for her safety, LeAnn had been in contact with the Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office on multiple occasions. She reported Salinas's threats and his destructive behavior, which included smashing his own car's windows with a sledgehammer. Deputies had encouraged her to seek the protection order and had even taken Salinas into protective custody for a mental health evaluation at one point, though he was not deemed mentally ill at the time.
On the morning of November 15th, LeAnn returned to the house with her eldest daughter, Brianna, to continue packing their belongings. Less than two hours prior, she had contacted a deputy to express her fear that Salinas had been at the property in violation of the protection order. Tragically, her fears were realized when Salinas arrived at the home. He proceeded to shoot and kill both LeAnn and Brianna with a shotgun before turning the weapon on himself. The grim discovery was made by deputies after Salinas sent a text message to his aunt confessing to the murders. The four surviving children, who were not present at the time of the incident, were left in the care of their grandparents.
