Bryson Okada, 33, a Native Hawaiian man, was killed in Honolulu on the night of May 18, 2022, after violence spilled out of an illegal game room operating near the Hawaiʻi Convention Center area along Kapiʻolani Boulevard. By the time the commotion settled, he had been shot and pronounced dead at the scene, and the small, late-night world of gambling, side-door businesses, and after-hours tension became the center of a homicide investigation.
