On August 4, 1931, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Constable William F. Barr, aged 65, was fatally shot in Florence, Alabama, while attempting to apprehend a robbery suspect. Accompanied by the county sheriff, Constable Barr approached a residence at 441 North Court where the suspect was believed to be hiding.
